Frequently asked questions

Where are you located?

For three years we have operated out of our home studio. Our new apothecary and mercantile will be located in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans - a hop, skip, and a jump away! The corner storefront will be occupied for the first time in decades, and we're honored to be opening soon.

Do you handcraft your own products?

YES! All of the Southern Rhoades Apothecary goods are handcrafted. Many ingredients are even homegrown. This isn't just a buy and resell operation - we're putting a lot of love into these health and beauty products.

What do you grow in your organic garden?

Herbs, flowers, and citrus! Specifically - roses, lavender, sage, rosemary, basil, dill, oregano, mint, spearmint, thyme, aloe vera, grapefruit, clementine, sweet orange, satsuma, key lime, meyer lemon. (And more that we eat!)

Is your cold process soap vegan?

YES! All of our soaps are vegan and are palm oil free.

What local ingredients do you source?

Honey, sugar, beeswax, loofahs, coffee, grain alcohol, water, and more.

Is your Palo Santo sustainably sourced?

YES! We are USDA certified timber importers and work directly with a family farm in Ecuador.

Southern Rhoades, now a USDA certified timber importer, has teamed up with an eco-friendly South American farmer to offer individual sticks, bundles, + bulk. We are currently supplying salons, studios, and storefronts with responsibly harvested Palo Santo sticks.

Palo Santo is an incense wood that cleanses a spaces, provides calm, + improves well-being. The concentration of essential oils that provide the irresistible aroma and alleged healing properties do not develop until after the tree has fallen on its own accord and given ample time to rest on the forest floor. Only then may it be responsibly harvested by our friend and supplier.

Southern Rhoades imports directly and acts as a wholesale provider to the Gulf Coast.

What is your wholesale minimum?

We do not currently require a minimum order. Feel free to test or order a small amount depending upon your store's needs.

What is your minimum re-order?

We do not currently require a minimum re-order. Our products are made to order so we can easily accomodate.

What is your "Good Human Policy"?

Southern Rhoades is an extension of our lives, and we try to be good stewards to the earth and considerate of our community. We support local farmers when buying the ingredients that go into your products. Louisiana grown/made sugar, rice, coffee, beeswax, grain alcohol, distilled water, etc. We maintain an organic garden where we grow as many ingredients as possible, reducing the carbon footprint usually associated with delivering raw goods. We source non-imported, high-quality essential oils for use in our products, and create our own oil infusions and distillations. We have gone the extra step to ethically source Palto Santo directly as a USDA certified timber importer as a bulk provider. We package our products in re-usable glass, recyclable tin, and compostable cardboard tubes when possible and try to limit plastics in packaging - we even use 100% recycled paper labels on most items!
